The best and easiest IMHO is to hop into any of the numerous waiting taxicabs and be prepared to pay about $85 plus tip.

If you%26#39;re looking for a less expensive alternative, you can take the SuperShuttle shared van service. You may need to wait perhaps 15-30 minutes before the van leaves and put up with other passenger stops before reaching the Hyatt. $35 for the first passenger, $12 each additional.

See this thread for other less expensive options. Two years later, all the prices in this thread are a bit higher.

Unless you are stuck with BWI, consider flying into DCA. You can take the metro for a couple of bucks and the Bethesda stop is literally under the Hyatt.

I would like to know this to, only from DC to Baltimore. Isn%26#39;t there a Marc train you can take from Union Station into BWI? There is the subway from Union to Bethesda, wouldn%26#39;t this be an alternative. How safe is it?

iamaroamer,

It is an alternative--but realize that the MARC train runs only Monday-Friday, it%26#39;s about a 40 minute ride between Union Station and BWI, and then perhaps 25 minutes on Metro between Union Station and Bethesda. You could substitute Amtrak for MARC on the weekends and holidays, but Amtrak tickets cost about $10-$15 more than MARC.

So it%26#39;s at least an hour of actual travel time on two trains--then you need to factor in your connections and waiting time. First, the train at BWI doesn%26#39;t run right to/from the BWI air terminal, you need to wait for and take a shuttle bus to/from the train station a couple of miles away. Outside of rush hour, the MARC trains run no more than once an hour.

Then, in addition to time to move yourself between MARC/Amtrak and Metro at Union Station, consider the factor of additional luggage handling at Union Station and at BWI rail station to transfer from rail to bus.

Best case scenario using the trains--if your timing really works out perfectly, you%26#39;re looking at about 1.5 hours from the time you step out of the BWI terminal and arrive in Bethesda (or the other way around). Not so perfectly--if you%26#39;re a minute late for the train at BWI or Union--you%26#39;re then looking at 2.5 hours between BWI and Bethesda. Then factor in the possibility of service delays on MARC, Amtrak and/or Metro--they are not unheard of, either.

If you%26#39;re coming from the airport and don%26#39;t have a deadline in Bethesda, a 2.5 hour trip may not be a big deal. But the other way around, arriving at the airport an hour later than you%26#39;ve planned could be disastrous.

Hop into a taxi, you%26#39;re looking at about 40 minutes door-to-door (longer in rush hour). Arrange for a shuttle, perhaps 1-1.25 hours.

While there are obviously no guarantees, MARC/Amtrak and Metro are both very safe and you shouldn%26#39;t have any concerns if you exercise common sense. Good luck!
