Hotel %26amp; Conference in Bethesda, Oriole game in Balt. do not want to drive the rental, ideas, buses, trains? cab would be nuts...
Bethesda to Baltimore?? %26amp; Back..
This is hard. I drive pretty much everywhere, so I am not that familiar with the Metro and train connections. I would be worried about whether your chosen form of public transportation would be running after the game if the game is a night game. I simply don%26#39;t know, but you should be sure of this before you find yourself stranded. You might get more knowledgable help from the DC forum. Bethesda is not a typical travel route for Baltimorians.
Bethesda to Baltimore?? %26amp; Back..
I%26#39;m assuming by ';nuts'; you mean outrageously expensive. Bethesda to Baltimore is about an hour%26#39;s drive, and what might be a $100 cab ride is unfortunately the cost of using a service that%26#39;s priced for shorter hauls.
The challenge with most public transportation options from Bethesda is that you%26#39;ll first need to head through downtown Washington to catch a train or bus to Baltimore. This is about 1/2 hour in the opposite direction, and then you%26#39;re usually looking ahead to at least an hour of bus or train transportation to Baltimore.
You%26#39;re not going to get the best answer until you provide more details, specifically:
1) Weekday or weekend game? Game time?
2) If weekday, what time does your conference work end?
3) Do you want to do other things in Baltimore besides going the game if you have the time? Or just go to and from the game?
4) Location of hotel in Bethesda. Downtown near the Metro? Or out by the Mall?
Some of the options you%26#39;ll hear about are weekday (or weekend) only, some are limited to just before or after the game, etc. So without this essential info, here are some general options that can be done pretty much 7 days a week, around the clock:
The absolute cheapest way would be to take the Metro from Bethesda to Greenbelt (either $2.35 or $4.50), then the B-30 express Metrobus to BWI Airport ($3.10), then the light rail to the stadium ($1.60). But again, there are numerous transfers involved (with substantial waiting time if you just miss a connection), you need to first work your way through downtown DC on the subway, and it%26#39;s probably a 2.5 hour proposition each way from hotel to ballpark.
The only one that doesn%26#39;t require you to venture through DC is to take the local bus from Bethesda to Silver Spring, and catch a Greyhound from there to downtown Baltimore. The Baltimore Greyhound station isn%26#39;t in the greatest area (what inner city bus station is?), and you%26#39;d want to catch a taxi from there to the game.
A nice, convenient compromise between cheap public transportation and the taxi would be to catch an airport shuttle from Bethesda to BWI Airport ($33 on SuperShuttle), and then take the light rail from there directly to the stadium for $1.60.
All that having been said, it really isn%26#39;t that bad a drive if you already have a rental car, again depending on the missing basic information.
Give more information and I think you%26#39;ll get better, more focused answers. Go O%26#39;s!
Nice work . Sat May 17 SAt. night game heavy boozing, Yankee fan will wear Jeter jersey, graet seats, now it turns out we need to get a room for that Sat. night I%26#39;ve seen $250/ night everywhere! Any sneaky towns nearby Camden where we can cab %26amp; notr pay that hotel prices?
-S
As you can tell, prices anywhere near Camden are way up for Yankee games.
Your best bet is to grab something along the light rail near BWI Airport. Free shuttle to BWI and then the 27-minute ride to Camden%26#39;s gates.
Here%26#39;s some current availability from Kayak:
Sleep Inn %26amp; Suites, $120
La Quinta Inn %26amp; Suites, $125
Comfort Inn, $157
The drive from Bethesda to the BWI area is nothing on a Saturday.

Not to mention the Preakness is that same day!
We are going from CA to Bethesda for a conference on Wedn., and i want to use the rest of the week for sightseeing. I have several problems to solve and i%26#39;ve got the feeling that you are the right person to ask for help. My questions are the following:
1. what is the best airport to fly in and out?
2. where we should stay - near Bethesda or in Baltimore, or inbetween? My husband has a two hours meeting in Bethesda on Wedn night, and we plan to rent a car. Should i go with him - if there is enough historical places to see in Bethesda - or stay in Baltimore and wait for him?
3. What to do in Baltimore Thu - Fri -Sat? if i plan to fly back Sun.
All your advices will be highly appreciated.
tubman said ';from Bethesda, you must first head to downtown Washington in order to catch a train or bus to Baltimore.'; But, what about the AMTRAK station in New Carrollton ? And what about the MARC stations in Laurel and other intermediate points ?
MarylandMist,
The original question was about public transportation options between Bethesda and Baltimore. The OP said he didn%26#39;t want to use a car or pay for a taxi.
Without a car, I can%26#39;t think of a way (other than maybe taking four or five buses) that could get you from Bethesda to one of the rail stations you suggested without first Metroing through downtown DC--starting out your trip by heading ten miles south while Baltimore is about 40 miles northeast.
What are you specifically suggesting--step by step--for someone who wants to get to Baltimore from Bethesda without using a car or taxi? I%26#39;ll be pleasantly surprised if there%26#39;s something that hasn%26#39;t already been addressed in this thread.
Public transporation running east-west between Montgomery and P.G. counties and highways to accomplish same other than the Beltway are virtually non-existent, hence the push for projects like the ICC and Purple Line.
I realize this is an old topic, but the easiest way to do it would be take the Metro from Bethesda to Union Station and then MARC or Amtrak to Baltimore. I make the trip from Baltimore once in a while and it takes about an hour and a half if you have a good connection. During the week when MARC is running it%26#39;s only about $10 each way.
