Non-seafood report from 9/13-9/20 trip

Thank you for so many great recommendations for non-seafood restaurants. We had a awesome time in OC and can%26#39;t believe we%26#39;ve already been home for about a week.

I%26#39;ll list some the places we ate and what we thought..

Dough Roller on the boardwalk: We%26#39;ve made our final trip to this restaurant. Just not a fan of the pizza.

Big Peckers: LOVED this place. We have a toddler, so arrived about 4pm to avoid the bar rush. DH had a bacon cheese burger ($8.50). Burger very good, but only 2 small pieces of bacon. I had one with mushrooms, onion and green pepper (8.50). YUM and both cooked to perfection. HUGE! We also ordered an appetizer of fried veggies. Very good, arrived in about 5 minutes and only $5.99--the basket was overflowing and we ate our fill and still had 1/2 to go.

Smokers BBQ: Found it on 611 in West OC. Wow!! What a little jewel!! We carried it back to the condo 2 times (less than $16 both times)and ate there one time (fried chicken and kids meal $25). DH loved the brisket sandwich and the sausage bean soup. I had chopped pork, very good. The sides we tried were all pretty good-coleslaw, fries, baked beans, tomato cucumber salad. We wouldn%26#39;t order the garlic green beans or the fried chicken 2nd time.

Anthony%26#39;s carved beef: Shared a large roastbeef sub ($12.99). Very yummy and lots of meat.

Fracture Prune: Had to try the doughnuts. Ick..won%26#39;t be eating those things again. Don%26#39;t get me wrong, we eat fried food quite often, these were just too greasy and the toppings were way too ';fake'; tasting.

J %26amp; J%26#39;s Pizzeria: YUM!! What a great find!! This is in W. OC between the outlet shopping and Wal-Mart. We were disappointed that we discovered this place on our last night. Woodfire pizzas. We ordered a large pepperoni and mushroom, a side salad and 1 soda ($20). The sauce was excellent-light, not too sweet and the crust was thin and just the right crispy.

Warren Station in Fenwick: Great family restaurant. On the main road, not too far over the state line. Very reasonable prices. We arrived about 2:30 and were still on the lunch menu. I had a salad with a scoop of tuna salad and turkey salad ($7-both very tasty and I%26#39;d order them again) and DH had a club sandwich and fries ($7). Baby ate off my plate as usual. This place was just closing up for the season. It was opened many years ago by a turkey farmer and I guess they are known for their turkey dinners-only on the dinner menu ($10). We will definately eat here on the next trip.

Boardwalk food: Thrashers (only once, but WOW!:), Polish water ice-watermelon, Kohr%26#39;s frozen custard, Fisher popcorn, tons of trips to Wockenfuss for various treats to include King Tut, and chocolate shells.

At Sunfest in the food tent we had Pit Ham and Turkey sandwiches with potato salad (best I ever had) and coleslaw. Very good, just a tad pricey as expected.

I%26#39;m sure I%26#39;m forgetting some places, but I hit the highlights of this gluttony adventure!! :)

Wow, I%26#39;m hungry now after reading your review. Thank%26#39;s for the report. We did the food tent place too last weekend. We had the fried oysters (2 small containers) and 2 soda%26#39;s..... $24.00 OUCH !!

But those were some of the best oysters I%26#39;ve ever had.

Thanks for the trip report. I love J%26amp;J%26#39;S pizza too. They have a great deal right now a pizza and pitcher of beer for $15.99. Sounds like you had a fun time.

Glad to hear someone else from TA has been to J %26amp; J. Have you ever eaten at the restaurant next door. They said they were affilated with them and it does look like they share a kitchen for non-pizza items. Osterman?? Something like that..

Flattop! I knew from your posts that you were going to be in town for Sunfest. I was wondering if I%26#39;d see someone that looked like your picture while we were cruising the tents. Friday was an excellent day for the Sunfest with the temps so low. Think how hot those crowded tents would have been if it had been any warmer! :)

Many years ago I was in Toledo on business and ate at a steak house on the Maumee River.I think it was called Frank Unkles or somthing like that.

Best New York strip I ever had.

Frank%26#39;s is gone now. There is a sports bar in the building now. :) Actually, I don%26#39;t live too far from that location.

Would love for you to post your reviews in the restaurant section. It is easier for paper to search when just looking for food in OC.

Which Fractured Prune? The one on 28ths the best, several others are ';franchises'; and just not the same. BTW, Anthony%26#39;s makes a great breakfast too.

Great idea, I%26#39;ll do that when I have a few extra minutes.

We did go to the Fractured Prune on 28th. And we certainly went wanting to like it, but alas, we were disappointed. :(
