Oktoberfest.....October 10-12

What kind of turnoout do they get at the Oktoberfest at the Convention center? Has anyone ever been there before. Coming down this weekend and we will probably check it out. Also lookiing for some locals night clubs/bars... Any help is appreciated.

I have been to the Octoberfest. Unfortunately it is not much of a fest. There were only TWO beers there when I went 2 years ago. A domestic and Becks. A food stand with some German fare, but again very limited. There were various booths peddling all sorts of things. It was not very themed oriented.

Thanks for the info. What about bars around the 12th street area. We will be staying at the Hojo plaza on 12th street. Its been a few years since I was down there. Any new or improved clubs. Looking for live music if possible.

Head up to the inlet area of the boardwalk. Check out Cork Bar or Snappers. Great watering holes.

Around 12th street.. well Pickles Pub is on 8th street, it is a nice bar with a few pool tables. Pepppers on 15th street and the boards is a locals bar, a basement type bar with a good atmosphere when busy. When you get to town put on the radio station 98.1 and they do a great job of listing all of the live music and dj,s in town. Also Fishtales on 23rd st and the bay is a locals bar right on the water, but no live msic of dj,s. And you cant go wrong with Seacrets. Have fun, the weather is going to be great.

Well ended up going to the Oktoberfest at the convention center. What a joke that was. 2 beers on tap at $5 per 12 oz cup, after you paid $6 just to walk in. Food was expensive. There were some crafts but not worth the time. We looked around. I drank one beer which cost me $11 (beer price plus entrance fee). I should have taken your advice and stayed away.

All in all though it was a beautiful weather weekend. Ended up going to Fish Tails, MR Ducks, Frogs, Purple Moose, Brass Ball Saloon, Peppers. My liver needs a break.....

Thanks for the trip report. Sorry to hear the Oktoberfest was a disappointment, I went about 8 years ago and it does not sound as if much has changed. Everyone I know goes once and that is it, it is a shame that they are not able to make the changes needed for it to be more fun and not so pricey. At least you had good weather, and found your way to some good bars.
