next week in oc?

Coming down to OC next week for a couple of days. I%26#39;m wondering if there is anything special going on? Will the christmas lights be on yet, and where are they located?

Looks like the light show starts on 11/20 and runs through the beginning of January, so you will miss that.

Nothing else special going on according to the events schedule I saw.

Have a safe and enjoyable trip.

next week in oc?

We just arrived today and are a bit frustrated by the things we read before we made our plans. Many of the places that said they are open year round are only open Friday-Sunday so just be aware of that. It was a lousy day weather wise so we did not venture out too much but even places advertised in this weeks local paper as being open to eat all year (hours listed as ';every day from 11 AM...) where not open. Lesson learned.. not a place we will visit in high season and now won;t come back in the off season.

We did see Christmas lights up down on the boardwalk this morning but I don%26#39;t think they are finished setting them up just yet. There is a big craft fair going on this weekend at the convention center but I am not sure if it will still be there when you arrive. We went to Assateague island today and that was neat. We saw a number of horses and enjoyed that.

I understand your frustration with the false advertisement of hours - however, I would venture to guess that this was NOT a deliberate deception. In the the wake of this economic nightmare, a lot of OC restaurants are having a tough time, there have been a number of them that have closed for good just in the last month. Even when I visited in July of this year you could see the impact it was having on these places. I would think that most likely what happend is that the ads were placed (weeks or months ago) with all intentions of being open under the hours that they posted, but were forced to scale back due to lack of business.

My suggestion would be if you want to visit OC in the ';off season'; do so in Sept. The weather will almost certainly be better, and you%26#39;ll find a lot more places will be open. The resort is always trying to market itself 12months a year, but in truth Ocean City will never really be a popular (or even practical) get away for most vacatiners in the winter months.

Thanks for all the replys. I am coming to OC tomorrow for a quick getaway. We are looking at properties with the intention of buying in the next month or so. This trip is just to narrow our choices to which buildings we are most interested in. Since we have been to OC many times, tho mostly in season, with a few trips in May, Sept, and October, we thought it would be a good idea to look around in off season. Thankfully, the weather looks good, so I guess we%26#39;ll be taking long walks along the beach!!!

We%26#39;ll be staying up in the hirise section...I know Nicks is open, so well be making our visit there. Does anyone know of another local restaurant that stays open all year?

The restaurants on the harbor in West Ocean City are all open year round. I particularly like Sunset Grill and Crab Alley but others swear by Captain%26#39;s Galley and Harborside. Look on the restaurant reviews on this site.

DeanMPittsburgh says, ';In the the wake of this economic nightmare, a lot of OC restaurants are having a tough time, there have been a number of them that have closed for good just in the last month.';

That%26#39;s a shame. Which ones have closed for good in the last month?

Have you tried Liquid Assets on 94th street? Awesome food in a unique setting. Here is the link http://www.ocliquidassets.com/. I love the shrimp and grits and my husband cant get enough of the burgers and bbq sandwhiches. Worth a try. Good luck condo hunting, husband is in Real Estate so I know there are some great deals out there. Have fun.

BBear64, Theses are some of the places I%26#39;ve read that are rumored to be closing or are already closed

Mr. Bills on rt 54

the Mexican Cantina (never heard of this one myself)

Wiskers pub

Steer Inn

Bull on the Beach (west OC)

Hammerheads

Bootys

These are all the ones that I can remember, there may be more, and like all rumors some probably completly false. So take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks, DeanM-Pittsburgh. I%26#39;ve heard of some of those, but never went to them. I%26#39;m glad I guess none of my favorites were ones that closed. Buxey%26#39;s I know there was rumors of closing or selling. I%26#39;m just hoping they stay put.
