Traffic?

Hey everyone!

My husband and I are taking a trip to the east coast for our spring break. We are flying into Baltimore and then spending the night with some friends of mine in Newark, Delaware before we travel to other locations. I know Philadelphia is closer to Newark but the flights there were substantially more expensive, so we are flying into Baltimore.

Our flight is coming in at 4pm on friday, March 6. I know I am jumping the gun, but I am a planning nut and like to plan the details way in advance so I get to relax before the trip. My question is, how is rush hour driving from Baltimore to the DE area? I am trying to decide if we should kill a few hours in Baltimore before we drive to Newark or if it is okay to drive as soon as we get our car.

I remember from when I lived back there that we have nothing in Utah that can compete with the rush hour in some of the cities back east... I guess I%26#39;m just wondering if that sentiment is true in Baltimore, as well.

Any information you can offer would be very helpful. Thanks for your time!

Traffic?

You can expect some bumper-to-bumper crawling from the tunnel until you get up past Edgewood and Bel Air. Nothing that would make me want to hang out at the airport or anything, just a 20-30 minute slog before it opens up again, barring any accidents of course.

If you%26#39;re checking luggage, it may very well be 6:00 anyway by the time you get off the plane, get your bag(s), take the shuttle to the rental car facility, and get the paperwork done.

Traffic?

On a good day it can take an hour to drive from Baltimore through all of Delaware into NJ. With traffic I%26#39;d say double it, which isn%26#39;t terrible I guess.

Thanks for the insight!!

I read some places that there is an alternative route. Is it better or about the same to take highway 40 instead of I-95?

The traffic doesn%26#39;t sound as bad as I was expecting!

Barring a major accident or something, Route 40 doesn%26#39;t really make sense. It gets rush hour traffic anyway, has stop lights and lower speed limits.

Thanks so much!!

You are better off to stay on I-95 instead of 40. March should not be too bad even though you will probably hit 95 at the peak of rush hour. I say you may hit the road at about 5:00 pm. If there is an accident or someone pulled over you%26#39;ll be sitting in traffic for sure. If no distractions, you will probably slow down @ 895/95 split for about 5 miles. If for whatever reason you do take R40 you can get on it at Whitemarsh, but there are lights and a slower speed limit. The only time you would want to do this is if there is a major accident and 95 is shut down or 1/2 lanes.

Related to Sarah%26#39;s question, does anyone have good tips for the best radio station to listen to for traffic updates in the Baltimore area?

WBAL AM 1090 has traffic and weather every 15 minutes.

I am not a huge fan of AM radio but do listen to that to see what I am in for on my drive home.

they are doing alot of construction on this part of 95 (which so far actually seems to be helping.) The traffic on Friday will be heavy as the others have said. The I95 - I895 merge will be stop %26amp; go, but after that you should open up a little for the next 20 miles. Once north of Edgewood (really Aberdeen/Harve de Grace) it should flow pretty well.
