Looking for an Annapolis hotel for our anniversary

My wife and I are thinking about going to Annapolis in June for our 1st wedding anniversary and we are looking for a hotel within walking distance of the historic downtown area and preferably near the water. I understand from reading all of the other forum post that staying near the historic downtown area is the best way for first time visitors to experience Annapolis. We%26#39;re also into running and hiking, so any any other suggestions for those activities would be appreciated.

Sorry, I should%26#39;ve added that B %26amp; B%26#39;s are a good option to if anyone can recommend a good one near historic downtown.

As a resident, I%26#39;ve never had the opportunity to stay at any of the B%26amp;Bs or downtown hotels, but I%26#39;ll pipe up here and maybe someone will chime in from personal experience. If I was going to stay in Annapolis, I would like to stay at either the Marriott or Gibson%26#39;s B%26amp;B. I%26#39;m not sure the exact name of Gibson%26#39;s (Gibson%26#39;s Grant?)but it%26#39;s tucked in between the downtown harbor shops and the Naval academy on a dead end street. I attended a corporate conference here once - quite nice. The Marriott is waterfront at the harbor. There are better places to eat, but the location here can%26#39;t be beat. Other than that, I would look into the West Street hotels - Westin is brand new, but a bit of a hike to the harbor area. Lowes is very nice, too.

As far as running and hiking, you would probably enjoy the B%26amp;A trail that departs from Route 450 just across the beautiful arched naval academy bridge. Go across the bridge and to the top of the hill and look for a small parking lot on the left (not in the median area - that%26#39;s for the WWII memorial). The trail departs from there and winds through the woods and neighborhoods of Annapolis, Arnold, Severna Park and really goes all the way to BWI Airport if you want.

I got a great deal at the Lowes for $82/night on Hotwire. I was hoping for the Westin, but the Lowes is still 4star and in a good location. You take the chance, but I believe they%26#39;re the only ';4 star'; hotels in Annapolis, so you should get either one.

We%26#39;re headed there this weekend. Unfortunately, it will be too cold for hiking or other outdoor activites. June is a great time to go!
