Hotels in areas you DON'T want to stay

Which hotels in which areas should you NOT stay.

Names of the hotels would be good and/or the areas in which you wouldn%26#39;t advise to stay.

My family is saying prices are coming down and not to book yet but I am not sure it is wise.

What is the latest you would suggest to book for August?

Which travel site is second best over hotwire?

Anyone ever get bad areas to stay thru hotwire?

thanks

Hotels in areas you DON'T want to stay

I have read your other post and realize budget is a major consideration. You can get the Sheraton City Center downtown near the Harbor, currently $99.95/night for the weekend you%26#39;re coming (via Sheraton website). But be aware that it is pre-paid and largely non-refundable if your plans change.

So if you want to put the matter to rest now and know that have a conveniently-located room in a decent place at a good price, just go for it and don%26#39;t look back. If you need to spend less, you can probably find rooms in the BWI airport area in the $70 range without subjecting yourself to the mystery of Hotwire. That will put you about 20 minutes from the Harbor via car or about 30 minutes via inexpensive public transportation (light rail).

You can always make a refundable reservation now at one of the less-expensive hotels to ensure you have a place to stay, and then cancel it if a bargain opens up at the Harbor via Hotwire or some other site.

If you find you need to resort to Hotwire, I%26#39;d stay away from their ';Baltimore West'; zone. Columbia/Jessup is not a bad area, but may be too far away from the Harbor for you.

Hotwire does currently show $69 rooms in their ';Downtown/Inner Harbor'; zone, but frankly the map covers a lot of ground and some parts of the zone aren%26#39;t the greatest. You may find yourself wishing you had spent a bit more for the Sheraton.

thanks a bunch

Yea i think for now i have to stay away from anywhere where you can%26#39;t cancel. I just found out the wedding is on shakey ground and may not happen.

you think i can wait a few months to book for Aug.

Also, everything I have read about hotwire is they over rate the properties by a star. So while Priceline may rate a hotel 3 star, hotwire will rate it 4 star. Go to betterbidding.com, put in Baltimore and get all the tips you need on getting close to what you want.

thanks I will do that

IMO, there aren%26#39;t many major hotels in bad areas in Baltimore. There might be a few on the outer fringes of touristy areas that might considered ';bad'; areas but unless you are booking a hotel on Route 40 or North Ave., you should be OK.

ok thanks

what about inexpensive hotels near Rock state park?

My boys want to go climbing there.

anything inexpensive?

I%26#39;ve never heard of Rock State Park ? ?

Are you referring to ';Carderock'; on the Potomac River just above D.C. ?

…state.md.us/publiclands/central/rocks.html

sorry, but i have no idea what hotels are in that area.

maryland mist...i think the only reason i%26#39;ve heard of this park is that every few years there%26#39;s an article in the paper about somebody falling to their death while climbing the ';king %26amp; queen seats';.

not to panic you, jmur...if your kids are experienced climbers. it doesn%26#39;t happen often, %26amp; often the victims have been half looped as well.

thanks

yea they are kind of experienced

But right now no more need so thanks to everyone for their input.

The wedding in Baltimore is off so we are not coming at least this year.

nice meeting all of you
