We plan to go to OC in July. We have 2 kids (5 %26amp; 3 years old). We are looking for ocean view, 2 bedroom or 1 + den unit. Indoor and outdoor pool would be nice. I read good things about Golden Sands. Please let me know. Thanks.
which is the best condo building in OC?
Like a saying goes, ';you could lay all the ecomonists in the world end-to-end and never reach a conclusion';. Same can be said about the condo%26#39;s. A number of the high rises (Golden Sands, Plaza, Quay, Sea Watch) offer both pools. Golden Sands, Sea Watch, Plaza offer direct ocean front views versus the Quay that could be oceanfront or indirect view (built perpendicular to the beach). The Irene, Century 1, Capri, English Towers, and others offer indoor pools only. If outdoor pools alone are an option, you open up a whole new world which includes smaller mid-rise buildings. Benefits of the high rises are the %26#39;indoor pools%26#39; and some offer other amenities (small stores, wi-fi, game rooms, tennis courts at a few). Draw backs to the high rises (especially peak season), more crowded beaches, waiting for the elevators, building registration fee (at many $25 cash), paying for a 2nd parking space, heights - if applicable to your family. We%26#39;ve stayed at many of these buildings in the past and were extremely serious about buying a unit. However, to our surprise, we ended up buying a 3rd floor unit unit in a small mid rise (5 story, 30 unit building) with an outpool and have not regretted the choice. We had never really given the smaller buildings much of a glance. That being said, there is no %26#39;perfect%26#39; building. All have their pluses and minuses. Good places to check for rentals is: www.cbvacations.com and www.holidayoc.com. If you have time and want to see other building views and pictures, visit www.dpol.com which is the local MLS real time web site. Good luck and enjoy!!!

We stayed at the Plaza last year. It has an indoor and outdoor pool. All of the units are direct ocean front (which is nice). I believe that all of the units are 2-bedroom plus den or 3-bedroom. There is a building registration fee and parking for two cars.
The staff at the Plaza was very nice. We%26#39;d stay there again if they had units large enough for what we need.
CBvacations has a lot of units. They vary drastically on whether or not they are updated and the general decorating/furniture, so make sure you look at pictures before you decide.
I myself prefer the SeaWatch. Most of the units are 2 bedrooms and a den, and 2 full bathrooms. The units ending with 01,02,03,04,%26amp; 11,12,13,14 are best view of the beach, looking either north or south. The building had indoor and outdoor pools, plus a large gameroom, great for rainy days, and nighttime. CBvacations have some of their rentals, but most seem to be listed at seawatchoc.com, which links to century21 rentals. They are in the building itself, which makes for easier checkin.
All the advise in this forum is very good. We own a 3BR in the Quay right next to Golden Sands. GS is very nice, can be pricey, but nice amenities including indoor, outdoor, and kiddie pools. The building is angled, so some units are not straight-on direct oceanfront, which may not bother you. They have all flavors of condos from efficiencies to 3BR with, of course, varying decor and furnishings depending on the tastes/budget of the owners.
The Quay has 2BR units on the sides(1135 SF), and all 3BR are direct oceanfront(1512 SF). Less money than Golden Sands to rent, and indoor and outdoor pools, arcade, ping-pong room, and free internet cafe (bring your laptop). No kiddie pool or outdoor bar that GS has. The north side 2BR units face Golden Sands but have nice ocean views (since GS is angled), especially units ending in ';05';. South units get more sun, but the Atlantis condo building is about 50 feet away, cutting off the ocean view drastically. Good luck in your search, I hope this helps!
Thank you so much for your advice. I appreciate it! Your responses are very helpful.
