We have 3 young children (8, 6 %26amp; 1yr) and will be in OC the week of Aug. 22nd. We were looking to stay at a Condo on the Beach %26amp; Boardwalk so that we can keep travel down to a minimum. We found one condo that is 1 block from the boardwalk %26amp; Beach. You can see the Ferriswheel from the Balcony. Cost is $1900 for the week. A little concerned about noise for the baby. Please send suggestions.
Ocean City w/Kids
I%26#39;ve been going to OC over 25 years, and I hear this often, the noise issue. I%26#39;ve stayed in Oceanfront rooms and blockside rooms and I don%26#39;t ever have an issue of noise coming from people or cars outside my room. You get the occasional loud kid outside but you can get that at 2nd st and 91st st. I%26#39;ve had newborns to 5 years olds with me during my stay and again no issue with noise. I believe the people who complain about the noise are the one that go to bed at 7 or they have nothing else to do but complain.
Since your a block off the boardwalk I do not see you having any issue with noise from the outside. Of course you could have a loud neighbor in your hotel/condo.
It sounds like you have a nice spot for your condo, I too like to be near the amusement section of the boardwalk so all I need to do is walk to everything.
Ocean City w/Kids
I think that tfunky is right. You could be in the most isolated part of Ocean City and still have a noisy neighbor. I think the baby will be fine.
My only concern about your location is the trip you will have to make to actually get to the beach. Besides the block walk to the beach with your kids and all the stuff that goes with you, the beach itself at the lower end of the Boardwalk is quite wide. So, on top of the walk to the beach itself, you might still have a way to go before you actually reach the water.
I%26#39;ve never stayed down at this end, but others may be able to give their opinion of the logistics of all of this.
While the end of August is definitely still high season, the crowds might start thinning out a bit around then. I think I%26#39;d rather deal with driving down to the Boardwalk a couple of times a week and have a shorter walk to the beach every day.
To respond to last post about the walk..
Your 1 block from the boardwalk, so you%26#39;ll need to cross one street, not bad and there is cross walking lights. The ocean at that end is a little further of a walk from the boardwalk compared to the northern end of the boardwalk. But an extra 50-70 yards of a walk is a lot better than getting into a car. Drive around looking for a parking spot, paying a meter, then walking the same distance anyways.
After all that, get back into a hot car, drive back to your hotel and look for a parkng spot at your hotel all over again.
Each location has its benifits but your in a good spot with kids.
Can you make a suggestion where a good place to stay on the beach would be with two kids? We would like oceanfront. Not familiar with the area to know which end is which. Would not like to be on the side where the water is further from the boardwalk, but would like to be on whatever side is good for families, not having to cross any streets and worry about parking. Thanks!

OC is a long strip of beach, the northern end being where you%26#39;ll find condos, a more quiter setting and a less busier area. As the southern tip of OC has the boardwalk, amusements rides, a more abundant or things to do or see, thus having more people in the area. Boardwalk hotels are the best but can be pricey so here are a couple that fit my budget when shopping for a place.
Tidelands on 5th
Park Place on 3rd
Commander on 14th
Sahara on 19
Hotel Monte Carlo 3rd and block side (meaning not on the boardwalk but block side and still no streets to cross)
hope this helps and have any other question please fill free to ask
Thank you so much. We are looking for a hotel/condo with a kitchen. I was looking at the Carousel...I%26#39;ve read the reviews here. Is that in a good location and do you think it%26#39;s an OK place? I haven%26#39;t checked the places on your list yet to see if any have kitchens.
The Carousel is on 118th street, the northern end of OC where most condos are. A more relaxed, quiter area for vacationers. The hotel looks great, ice rink, indoor/outdoor pools and resturant on site.
I%26#39;m not big on staying at the norhtern end of OC but if thats what you want then have a great time in OC.
Trees,
When are you going? One negative thing about staying up where all the condos are (let%26#39;s say 85th to 120th) is that if you are there when most of the other people are (July-August), then the beach can get really crowded and some people don%26#39;t like that.
The Boardwalk goes up to about 28th Street, but the busy section is up to about 7-10th Streets. Between the Boardwalk and the Condos, there are a lot of mid-rise buildings that might suit you. While they don%26#39;t have the amenities of the condos, the beaches will most likely be less crowded around this area.
There are things to do throughout Ocean City. Driving down to the Boardwalk can be irritating (we always try to park at the Inlet rather than searching for parking), but if you are only going to visit there a couple of times, then it shouldn%26#39;t be too much of a bother.
Probably the largest real estate place to rent condos is cbvacations.com, but you can also try Long %26amp; Foster, Holiday, Shoreline and the VRBO sites.
Good luck!
I have stayed in the Carousel and it has it%26#39;s goods and bads. Goods.........ice rink and game room and small deli/coffee shop for a quick bite or drink.
Bads........CROWDED!! And SLOW, SLOW, SLOW elevators.
DIRTY beach area in season. As a matter of fact, the whole place could be cleaner. Room was large though, so that was good. We were on the 18th floor which was very nervewracking with two young kids always wanting to ';look down';.
We weren%26#39;t impressed enough to go back, and just didn%26#39;t like the whole high rise area when we had our kids with us.
