We have beautiful beaches here, but wanted to go somewhere new. Is it silly to travel there or should we just be content with something familiar %26amp; close. If you recommend OC, which area (waterfront) is best?
Do we want to go to OC if we are from NJ?Yes, I would say that if you like great beaches, come on down. The beach aside you could try new restaurants and explore a new area. I would recommend staying on the boardwalk, which is oceanfront. Also you could maybe take the Cape May Lewis Ferry over, we take it to Atlantic City and the ride ever is fun.
Do we want to go to OC if we are from NJ?I personally prefer mid town. Quieter, cleaner beach area. No high rises, and no boardwalk noise. Just depends what you%26#39;re looking for. There%26#39;s tons of stuff to do and places to eat no matter which end of OC you stay in. Bayside is nice for sunsets, but you have to cross the major highway to get to the ocean.
I agree you do have some beautiful beaches and just as each of them are different in their own way so is OC. It%26#39;s not silly to travel to experience something different. I live in the mountains, yet I travel to other locations to see other mountains, LOL. I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll have a great time and you can also go and explore Assateague Island and see the wild horses roaming about...I know that%26#39;s something you won%26#39;t find on Jersey beaches anywhere, LOL.
If I had to choose a specific location waterfront to stay, I%26#39;d also choose as the other poster did mid-town.
If you go hope you have a great trip!!!
Ocean City is great if:
a. you%26#39;ve never been to any other beach
b. you live in Baltimore and only have to drive 2.5 hours to get there.
When I was little and it was the only beach I knew, it was wonderful. Then I traveled to the beaches of NC, SC, FL, and the Caribbean and realized it wasn%26#39;t so great after all. It%26#39;s still where I go if I don%26#39;t have the time or money to get anywhere else, but it%26#39;s def not #1 on my lists of places to go.
Thanks everyone!
The beach in OCMD is FREE! Whereas you have to pay to go on most of the beaches in NJ...at least that has been my experience. Some of the beaches and towns in NJ are also dry as compared to OC where there seems like there is a place to get an adult beverage almost every block if you are into the partying scene.
Free beaches are certainly a plus but it wouldn%26#39;t outweigh the time and $$ spent on going from NJ to OC. I only know of one ';dry'; beach town and that%26#39;s NOT where I%26#39;d be headed :)
Not worth the drive. I prefer Ocean City, NJ, a much nicer place than Ocean City, Maryland. (We live in Maryland.) Although, of all the beaches in MD and Delaware, Ocean City, MD has the best waves for boogie board surfing. Rehobeth, Lewes, Dewey, Bethany -- not very good waves.
