We will be leaving Baltimore for Charlottesville and I wanted to stop somewhere unique on the way down. Either a must see place to eat or visit for an hour...any suggestions?
Somewhere special between Baltimore and Charlottesville Va?
Your journey will take you around or through Washington which, if you%26#39;ve never been, is certainly a must-see place to visit. Don%26#39;t know how you%26#39;d do that in just an hour though.
Since you%26#39;re looking for something in between Baltimore and Charlottesville, the best place to post may be neither of those forums. Posting in the DC forum may get you better results for an in between stop, if you%26#39;re a little more specific about the sort of place you%26#39;re looking to visit/dine. Otherwise, it%26#39;s a bit of a shot in the dark.
If you want to defer your departure from Baltimore and then drive straight through to C%26#39;ville, I%26#39;m sure you can get plenty of suggestions on what to do from this forum--again, if you%26#39;re more specific about what you%26#39;re looking for.

Thanks! I will post to the DC forum.
DC sounds a little intimidating as a place to stop. I have heard scary things about ';getting lost on the loop'; I fear my inferior sense of direction would have we driving around DC for hours trying to find my way back to the highway.
Not sure which route you would take, (there are options) but I would suggest Harper%26#39;s Ferry and the little town of Bolivar. Luray Caverns? I need to get my map out, but I think Luray is just off 81. If you are into antiqueing, you might enjoy a stop at New Market, just outside Frederick, MD.
If you are looking for most direct route, Harpers Ferry or Frederick Maryland area are way off track.
If it were me driving A to B without going ';the long way';, I would go 95 south to DC Beltway toward Silver Spring, around the Beltway crossing the American Legion Bridge into Virginia to 66 West to the Gainesville exit where you hook up with 29 and then take 29 into Charlottesville.
This is going to allow you to encounter numerous DC suburbs or DC itself if you want to go right into town. Or more rural areas of Virginia.
Warrenton is a nice little town with a quaint old-town area with eclectic shops and places to eat.
';Must see'; depends on your time and what your interests are. For some, a must see is a Civil War battlefield. For others, it is Tyson%26#39;s Corner Shopping Center.
I agree jwhitree, but getting to 66 around the washington beltway is sometimes not the easiest nor quickest route, - depends on time of day and personal aversion to 495. I prefer to avoid the issue - go down Route 301 and across 64 - or out 70 and down 15, 29 or 81. A matter of preference.
