mountains near baltimore for snow tubing

We are interested in visiting any area that is nearer to Baltimore ideal for some fun safe activities with snow for a family. We ( group of 5 adults, 3 of them 50 + ) would like to spend a weekend. None of us have really seen snow covered mountains before and would like to indulge in some safe basic snow fun. I was looking at Liberty Mountains. But would like to know if any more options are open to us.

Thanks

There%26#39;s also Ski Roundtop in Lewisberry, PA. http://www.skiroundtop.com/

but liberty is about 10-15 miles closer.

Your best bet is The Wisp in western Maryland. You didn%26#39;t mention when you are traveling but there%26#39;s not much snow, natural or man made, until late January and even then you could end up with a warm weekend and a mountain of slush. I%26#39;d look in to The Wisp. It%26#39;s usually cold enough for a lot of snow and has great tubing. It%26#39;s 4 hours from Baltimore.

I have to agree with the previous poster about looking into Western MD mountains. Liberty mountain is a good option but it is really packed with day trippers from the cities, and if you%26#39;re looking for a weekend ';experience'; (snowy mountains, etc), western MD would be the ideal experience. It would be worth the extra price.

HOWEVER, If you have to choose between Roundtop or Liberty, go for Ski Liberty. Here%26#39;s why:

1) They%26#39;re owned by the same company so the overall prices are similar.

2) The drive to Liberty from Baltimore is much more classically ';mountainy';-- to get to Ski Roundtop you%26#39;d drive through suburban areas and lesser piedmont topography.

3) Roundtop doesn%26#39;t have lodging on site. Liberty has two options: Liberty Lodge itself (same company, same website) or Carroll Valley Golf Resort (www.carrollvalleyresort.com). Liberty%26#39;s accommodations are probably nicer %26amp; more updated but the golf resort gives you more options in your travels.

*I am from the area around Liberty and love the scenery! However, if you are trying to plan the ideal snowy weekend, bear in mind that southern PA weather doesn%26#39;t always cooperate, and isn%26#39;t always cold. So if you absolutely MUST have snow, go for Western MD-- all it takes is one bad rain storm at Liberty to wash away all the snow on the mountain...

(sorry to write so much)

White Tail also has snow tubing. www.skiwhitetail.com
