I will be attending a conference in Silver Spring. The recommended hotels are the Marriott Courtyard on Fenton and Crown Plaza on Georgia. I am attempting to use Priceline to get a better rate. If I look in the Bethesda-Silver Spring area, will I be in the general vicinity? Any tips to getting a lower priced hotel? I%26#39;m a little shell shocked at the rates! Thank you for any help you can give me.
Hotel in Silver SpringThe Hilton is the only Priceline hotel in the downtown Silver Spring (DTSS) area where your conference is. If you don%26#39;t get that one and assuming you%26#39;ll have a car, you%26#39;ll be facing at least a 15-minute drive (possibly longer in rush hour)--including from the Courtyard Silver Spring that%26#39;s shown on the Priceline list.
DTSS is well-served by public transportation, but the challenge is at the other end of your trip--it will be hit-and-miss depending on what exact hotel you wind up with. Looking at the Priceline hotel list for the Silver Spring/College Park/Bethesda/Rockville areas, there are a few that could be done fairly easily with public transportation, and at least as many that would require at least two buses each way.
Given the mystery involved with Priceline, you might want to also consider Priceline or other hotels in downtown DC which you know are accessible to the Metro; then you can have confidence that you%26#39;ll be a 20-minute Metro ride from DTSS.
Do not attempt Priceline in the Maryland suburbs unless you%26#39;re also prepared to get a rental car if you wind up at a hotel that isn%26#39;t in DTSS or easily accessible to it.
Hotel in Silver SpringThank you so much for your quick reply- I really appreciate it!
AVOID the Days Inn on 13th St., Silver Spring at all costs! Montgomery County Police reported to community neighbors numerous incidents of handguns been recovered or removed from suspects here in just the past few months (2008). Arrests for prostitution and drug dealing are not uncommon. All in all, the crime problem
at this motel appears to be worsening in severity. Mont Co Police is spending large amount of time and resources in repeat 911 calls and arrests at this hotel.
Days Inn update: The state of MD and Montgomery County pressured the owners to change the manager and they are being forced, under threat of legal action, to follow an action plan that will hopefully reduce crime in the hotel. Let%26#39;s be hopeful as our community would like to see this place as a truly quality economical choice for tourists.
