I am new to MD. My parents are visiting at the end of March and they want crabs. I know they are out of season, but do most resturaunts still serve them and are they worth it??
Thanks!
Crabs in March??
You did not say what area so this may not be close but the best crabs I have had recently were at The Barn on Harford road in Parkville. They serve crabs all year long. We went there to watch a Ravens game and just got a dozen but I have to say they were some of the best crabs I have ever had. They were big, heavy and reasonably priced.
Crabs in March??
Canton Dockside (off of boston street) has them all year long. You might want to call beforehand to see what they have.
There is also a spot in glen burnie called Seaside - my parents just went there a few weeks ago and said they were great. (they also have a gooey delicious bread pudding dessert)
Since you are in Odenton, you may also consider driving to Annapolis to Cantler%26#39;s Riverside Inn (www.cantlers.com). It%26#39;s not much to look at but it is located right on a Mill Creek, a tributary off of the Chespapeake. A little tricky finding the place, but directions are good on their website.
In season, they catch many of the crabs themselves and they truly are delicious. They are known for their crabs and have a national reputation thanks to many food shows showing up to do segments. Their quality is what makes them unique and I would suspect that even if they were importing from the South during off season, they would not compromise.
You can make it a day trip and spend the afternoon in Annapolis. March, if the weather cooperates is actually a better time to be there. Not as many tour buses and crowds!
Most crab restaraunts in Maryland serve crabs year round. That goes for carry out too. Some places run crab specials on certain nights. You just have to call and ask

We had them last April at Costas. Hubby took me there for my last birthday living in Maryland where we grew up. We now live in NC. Every time we go up to Maryland, we get crabcakes. You can get those in many places. Also, crab soup is plentiful in Maryland restaurants year round.
