My husband and I will be traveling from BWI to the Hampton Inn Camden Yards on Thursday, Feb. 12th via light rail. It seems close, but how far a walk is it from the stop to the hotel? We should arrive during the early evening but it will be dark,so I am wondering about safety in this neighborhood when it%26#39;s not baseball season. We got a good rate at this hotel, and it has good reviews, but would we be better off security wise staying near the convention center? It is convenient for us to stay near the light rail line because we want to go back and forth between our hotel and the UB/Mount Royal stop a couple of days for Maryland Institute College of Art%26#39;s Parent and Family weekend. Thanks!

We have a group flying into BWI the Friday before Opening Day and really don%26#39;t know that much about the Light Rail system. We too are staying at the Hampton In by Camden Yards. Any information you get would also be helpful to us as well. Thanks!!

You should have no problem. It is just 1/5th mile from the light rail stop to the hotel and the area is well-lit.
I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;d be accomplishing anything by staying near the convention center, you%26#39;ll still be facing a walk of at least 1/5 mile to the closest hotel from the Convention Center light rail stop.
All that having been said--nothing is guaranteed to be 100% safe. If you%26#39;re the least bit nervous, take a cab from the airport for your first trip. Then you%26#39;ll have a chance to check out the area around the hotel in daylight Friday morning.
Also note that the light rail trip is 26 minutes from the airport and the trains leave every 1/2 hour (:13 and :43 after the hour). So if you just miss the train at the airport, it will be an hour of waiting and travel before you get to your hotel (versus 15 minutes by hopping into a taxi).
Thanks for the great advice, Tubman!
