I heard about this event by searching the internet on Antietam and I was interested in taking a winter break so I convinced my sisters to travel from upstate NY for 2 nights in the area. We stayed in Harpers Ferry. This event occurred 12/6 at 6pm but we ran into a family from Ohio who suggested we arrive at the battlefield around 3pm. We did arrive about that time and we got in the LONG line of cars. There must have been 50 ahead of us and they kept coming !! We waited for 3 hrs in the car but it was worth the wait. It is a spectacular, amazing and moving site to see over 23,000 luminaries (one for each missing, wounded and dead) placed about the battlefield. It took us approximately 1hr. from beginning to end and driving at approximately 5mph. It is certainly one way to realize the great sacrafice a previous generation made for the sake of our Nation. I highly recommend attending this yearly event.
